| Visitor Attractions Our self-catering holiday cottage is a
short drive from a huge
number of visitor attractions, so there is a family activity for every day of
the week, come rain
or shine!
For outdoor types, the croft is a few minutes walk from Blawhorn Moss nature reserve, and the picturesque Hillend Reservoir is a short drive along the A89. For birdwatchers The Cottage is within easy traveling distance of popular birding spots including Beecraigs Country Park, Linlithgow Loch, and Bangour and Lochcote Reservoirs, and many others listed on the Scotland pages of the www.fatbirder.com birdwatching site. Anglers can enjoy permit fishing at Linlithgow Loch and Hillend Reservoir, and many more local fisheries listed on www.fishing-uk-scotland.com. Historical sites within easy travelling
distance of The Cottage
include Edinburgh
Castle, Holyrood
House, the
world heritage village at New
Lanark, Linlithgow
Palace and Hopetoun
House. For younger children there are several soft-play,
swimming
pools
and sports
centres within easy reach. The nearby Five Sisters
Zoo, Muiravonside
Park and the Almond
Valley Heritage Centre are great
for active kids who enjoy animals and being outdoors. For wet days
there are fantastic, children-friendly museums in Glasgow, including Kelvingrove
Art Gallery and Museum, the Museum
of Transport, and Glasgow
Science
Centre. Multiplex cinemas and ten-pin
bowling
are
only 20 minutes away in either Livingston
or Coatbridge.
The
easily-accessible Clyde
Valley tourist route offers an abundance of
family garden centres and coffee shops, and an unbeatable variety of
shops is available in Livingston (McArthur
Glen Designer Outlet) and
Glasgow (the
Glasgow Fort).
Other great family days out from The Cottage include visits to the Falkirk Wheel, hands-on pottery at the Ceramic Experience (Linlithgow) and Deep-Sea World at North Queensferry. A trip to Beecraigs Country Park to see the deer farm and adventure playground is always fun, and nearby Polkemmet Country Park has plenty of space for picnicking and running around - it even has a nine-hole golf course and coffee shop. Summerlee museum and park (admission free) has many attractions for all the family including Scotland's only electric tramway and recreated mine and miners' cottages and playpark and lots lots more. In Edinburgh, the National Museum of Scotland in Chambers Street and the Museum of Childhood on the Royal Mile are both free and are guaranteed to keep young and old entertained for many hours. Dynamic Earth, located next door to the famous Scottish Parliament building, is also a popular family destination. For those evenings when you want to eat out there is a wide range of great local restaurants offering (for example) buffet Chinese and Indian cuisine, or perhaps an evening at the Bruntonside which enjoys great reviews, and offers authentic Scottish fine-dining. Prices The
Cottage can be booked for as little as £310 for one
week, and the
second week is charged at 50% of the first week price. During the
off-peak season this works out at less than £34 per day for 14
nights. We also offer a
15% discount for couples only occupying a single bedroom.
The first-week price varies as shown below according to the entry date. For two-week bookings covering two different price bands the second week is offered at 50% of the price shown for the later price band. |
